1) ACTION ITEM: Stop the anti-postering bylaw! (Monday March 7th)

The City's anti-postering bylaw is two steps away from becoming law. Your last chance to speak against the proposal is on Monday March 7th, at the the Planning and Transportation Committee.

We need your voice at City Hall! Members of the Committee want to hear your concerns. You can give a five minute lecture, or you can just get up for five seconds and say "I'm a citizen of Toronto and I think what you're doing is wrong. Please protect our right to poster."

If you can't make it to the morning meeting (11am), you can send written comments to the Committee Clerk, and they will be included in the meeting agenda for Councillors to read.

2) PUBLICity: A Gallery Exhibit of Toronto's Public Spaces

Spacing magazine and the Toronto Free Gallery are excited to present PUBLICity, a five-week photo exhibit examining Toronto's urban landscape and public spaces as captured by the city's top photobloggers. By gathering together these highly-regarded multimedia artists, PUBLICity will showcase the variety of life that arises from our unique city.

Please join us Thursday March 17 (7-10pm) as we launch this exciting show featuring the work of Sam Javanrouh, Matt O'Sullivan, Rannie Turingan, Davin Risk, Gayla Trail, Jonathan Day-Reiner, and Adam Krawesky. Their images have graced the pages of Spacing, or your computer screen, but now you have the chance to examine their beautiful photographs up close.

7) CROSSING CANADA ~ Moosejaw Public Space Committee?

Are you a TPSC fan living outside Toronto? Why not start your own local Public Space Committee? We're going on a coast-to-coast tour later this year and we hope to leave a trail of PSCs behind us! We'll do a presentation in each town and facilitate. The goal is to have www.publicspace.ca as a national link to all of these groups. If this sounds exciting to you, please contact us so we can incorporate you into our tour schedule!

8) DUNDAS SQUARE GENERAL MANAGER ~ Looking for a new career?

One year ago, we informed our subscribers that the Dundas Square Board of Directors was hiring a new General Manager and if you got the job, you could take over Dundas Square, rather than simply complain about it!

Missed your chance in 2004? You can do it again. The most private public square in Canada is hiring a new General Manager, again!

Your job is to "program and operate this unique focal point in Toronto's downtown area." It sure is unique. With more commercial surface area than the Goodyear blimp, massive video screens designed to distract drivers, private security and a $2,000 permit fee to use the space it's no wonder that the square is usually empty.

The job description offers some clues about how the City thinks public spaces should be run:

"The successful applicant will be an innovative, dynamic entrepreneur with demonstrated ability to successfully lead a business unit of similar scope, and will play an integral role in this exciting, new public-private partnership."

Public space? Why don't they just rename it the "Yonge Dundas Business Unit"?

Anyway, you can make $90,000 a year, so why not give it a shot?

You can send your application to their office....IN BRAMPTON!

Deadline: by Friday, March 11, 2005
"We thank all applicants and advise that only those selected for an interview will be contacted."
