TRANSIT SHELTER PETITION & CONTEST!

On Monday June 25 2001, Mayor Mel Lastman unveiled Toronto's new transit shelters, designed by local designer Jeremy Kramer. Standing at the corner of Queen and Bay, outside City Hall, Lastman proudly presented a brand new glass Viacom shelter with the words "BAY ST" written clearly on the side.

Since then, hundreds of these new shelters have been installed in Toronto replacing the old model. However, the street names seem to have been dropped from the design. The only text on the shelters now is the word "Viacom" which is very helpful to TTC riders who want to know which ad company owns our shelters, but not helpful to riders who want to know which stop they're at!

Viacom seems more focused on keeping their advertisers happy, rather than providing a public service.
